In the early 1980s, the city of Columbus was divided into 30 planning areas. These planning areas served as a geographical guideline for research conducted by the Columbus Planning Division. Data was collected for all planning areas and compiled into separate area information profiles. The profiles acted as a guide for a great number of planning programs and policies throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s.
